Bosch Professional drill

What the appliances in blue can do

The traditional company Bosch enjoys an excellent reputation worldwide. The conglomerate is one of the best suppliers in many industries and continues to operate as a limited liability company so that the family values can be safely preserved – without risking a hostile takeover. In the tool segment, Bosch Professional drills are particularly popular. They stand for high quality and can easily cope with continuous use in the trade. However, the blue models do not necessarily have to be massive 18V powerhouses – compact models with 12V and even 3.6V are also available.

In the following, we will show you which Bosch Professional cordless drill is recommended. You will also find out what you should bear in mind in this context. We hope to be able to help you with this guide.

Bosch Professional drill – 3 models in the presentation

Bosch Professional GSR 12V-15

Set 12V-15 FC

Although the blue Bosch Professional cordless drills were designed for heavy-duty use in the trade, there are also very handy models. One recommendation in this context is the Bosch GSR 12 V-15 FC .

This model is a 12V drill. In a special Amazon edition, it comes with a comprehensive range of accessories. These include two batteries with 2 Ah each, a charger, a practical bag, 7 wood drill bits, 7 metal drill bits, various bits and a transport bag. Including the battery, the cordless drill weighs a light 0.95 kg, which makes it absolutely effortless to use. In addition, it is less than 17 cm long in the head area, so that it can be used in confined spaces, such as inside a cupboard.

Despite its compact dimensions, this 12V cordless drill can develop a torque of up to 30 Nm. This means that screws with a diameter of up to 7 mm can be inserted and removed with ease. In addition, it is possible to drill holes up to 19 mm in size in wood and up to 10 mm in size in steel. The LED light on the front ensures that you can always see what you are doing.

Overall, the GSR 12V-15 is a handy Bosch Professional drill. It is ideal for moderate tasks and quick use in small spaces. During operation, the 12V model convinces with its gentle handling. As is familiar from tools in this class, the maximum clamping width of the quick-action drill chuck is 10 mm. Thanks to the variously adjustable power and the comprehensive accessories, you can also proceed in an adapted manner in every situation.

Bosch Professional GSR 18V-28

Cordless GSR 18V-28

The Bosch Professional cordless drills in the 18V series are particularly versatile. A popular model here is the Bosch GSR 18 V-28 .

This model is also available in a set. It comes with two 5-Ah batteries so that even big challenges can be tackled without interruption. It also comes with the matching charger and an L-BOXX. A wide range of bits and drills can be used in the classic 13 mm quick-action drill chuck. It is made of metal at the front and is therefore very robust.

The power can be adjusted to the situation in 2 gears and 20 torque levels. At the peak, it is possible to unleash a torque of 63 Nm. Accordingly, even large screws can be reliably countersunk. Bosch itself promises a screw diameter of up to 8 mm. In addition, you can drill 38 mm holes in wood and 13 mm holes in steel.

All in all, the GSR 18V-28 is a flexible drill from Bosch Professional. Thanks to the 18V voltage and the two 5-Ah batteries, you can tackle big tasks. Nevertheless, the tool remains quite handy and weighs less than 2 kg. The included L-BOXX supports you during transport and safe storage. Customers are convinced by this cordless drill and describe it as a “robust powerhouse”.

Bosch Professional GSB 18V-110 C

Combi hammer drill

The Bosch Professional cordless drills can compete with all other manufacturers in terms of performance. A very powerful model is the Bosch GSB 18V-110 C .

This 18V cordless drill can also do impact drilling. This makes it possible to drill through masonry and bricks with confidence. Screws up to a diameter of 12 mm can be used. Thanks to a torque of up to 110 Nm, no complications need be expected. You can also make holes up to 82 mm in size in wood and up to 13 mm in size in steel. The KickBack Control ensures that the great power development does not lead to accidents.

Unfortunately, it is inevitable that you have to pay for such potent performance with increased weight. It is around 3 kg here. For this reason, it is useful to mount the enclosed additional handle. This allows you to distribute the weight evenly over both arms. You can also connect this impact drill to your smartphone via Bluetooth. It can then be controlled in the following. In addition, useful information can be read out via the app.

In summary, the GSB 18V-110 C is a high-quality Bosch Professional drill. With its 18V platform, it achieves a torque of up to 110 Nm. There are no less than 25 different adjustment options on the preselection ring. Other features include an additional handle, a belt hook and a front LED. Because the tool can also be used for percussion drilling, holes of up to 16 mm can be made in masonry. The brushless motor not only provides plenty of power, but is also extremely durable. An electronic sensor system reliably protects it from overloads. The drill chuck, which is made of full metal, is just as durable.

Bosch Professional drill – This is what fundamentally matters

Selection options & drive

Under the Bosch Professional series, 11 classic cordless drills are offered. These have a voltage of 12V, 18V or 36V. In addition, there is an angle drill for confined niches and a mini model with 3.6V (Bosch GO) for very simple tasks.

The 12V and 18V tools in particular are used every day around the globe. They can be used universally for screwing and drilling. While a Bosch 12V battery has an elongated bar shape, an 18V battery has the familiar box shape.

All batteries feature high-quality lithium-ion technology. Although this is anything but inexpensive, it promises unique advantages. Since these batteries have no memory effect, they last a long time. In addition, there is only a low self-discharge. In general, a high energy density ensures that compactness and a light weight can be guaranteed even with high capacities.

In terms of battery capacity, Bosch offers values between 2 and 12 Ah (ampere hours). The higher the number, the longer the battery lasts in continuous operation. At the same time, however, the weight and dimensions also increase. Therefore, values above 5 Ah hardly make sense for cordless drills.

In addition, the high-quality models are equipped with a brushless motor. This is considered particularly powerful, durable and also saves space. There is no loss of power due to excessive friction. Moreover, there is no need to replace carbon brushes, because after all, they are not present either.

Power

It goes without saying that the potential power output must match the conditions on site. Depending on the range of applications, it is worth taking a look at various parameters in this context.

First and foremost, the torque is considered in terms of performance. It is expressed in Newton metres (Nm). The higher the value, the longer and thicker the screws that can be countersunk and removed. Depending on the model, a Bosch Professional cordless drill provides up to 115 Nm and is therefore also suitable for large tasks. The maximum screw diameter is 12 mm.

It is no coincidence that there are often more than 15 torque levels. In order to be able to countersink small screws in soft materials, for example, it is imperative to work with a low value. Otherwise, the screw would quickly disappear completely into the material.

Bosch lists the maximum drill diameters for common materials. At the top, you can make holes up to 82 mm in size in wood and up to 13 mm in size in metal with a Bosch Professional cordless drill.

By the way, the 12V devices already have 2 gears. In 1st gear, the maximum torque can be provided to exert particularly high power. In 2nd gear, a high motor speed is available, which is suitable, for example, for drilling into soft wood without splintering.

In principle, you can also derive the potential power from the battery voltage. 18V tools are actually always superior to 12V models in this respect. If this is not the case, the manufacturer has done something wrong.

When using electric tools, one or the other may think of the wattage. However, it only defines the power consumption per se and does not say anything about the power development. A high energy consumption/unit of time can be an indicator for a lot of power, but you should always look at the other parameters in this context.

Drill chuck

The drill chuck has a decisive influence on the ease of use and the possible applications in practice. Depending on the drive, a Bosch Professional drill is equipped with different versions. While a 12 V cordless drill has a 10 mm quick-action drill chuck, an 18 V model has a 13 mm quick-action drill chuck. The numbers shown indicate the maximum clamping range.

In general, a quick-action drill chuck promises many advantages. For example, it can be opened and closed with one hand. The use of separate tools is not necessary. A typical clicking sound tells you when the attachment is securely fixed.

Handling

Handling a cordless drill should generally be as comfortable as possible. In this case, you can concentrate in the best possible way and do not have to fear any physical discomfort. Bosch strives to offer you a high level of comfort in many respects.

Since a Bosch Professional cordless drill can be as compact as it is massive, there are also big differences in its own weight. The lightest versions weigh less than 1 kg including the battery. Accordingly, they can be easily carried above the shoulders even by women and senior citizens. The more powerful models, on the other hand, can weigh more than 2.5 kg.

As known from other manufacturers, the grip surfaces are rubberised. This gives you a firm grip and you don’t have to worry about feeling pressure or even calluses on your palm.

An optional attachable and detachable additional handle supports you when handling large models. This allows you to distribute the weight evenly over both arms.

In general, you can rely on the fact that handling a Bosch Professional drill is uncomplicated. This already starts with inserting the battery. All controls are intuitive to use, with clear symbols such as numbers (torque) or arrows (right-left rotation).

Range of functions

A Bosch Professional drill can come up with various additional functions that extend the comfort and the possible applications. We will briefly explain what these are in the following.

As already mentioned, the operation is actually always uncomplicated. If you want, you can start directly via the throttle switch. Before doing so, however, it is advisable to set the torque on the pre-selection ring. The more power you want to transmit, the higher the level should be.

A rotary switch on the top can be used to switch back and forth between 1st and 2nd gear. Furthermore, switching from clockwise to anticlockwise rotation and vice versa is done by pushing in the side bolt.

A front LED ensures that each working area can be brightly illuminated as desired. This is located either in the foot or in the head area. Thanks to it, you can easily observe the progress of your work, which allows you to work more effectively and safely.

A belt hook can also be part of the equipment. If it is used, it is possible to climb ladders and scaffolding safely with both hands.

Bosch Professional drills stand out particularly in the area of safety. Sophisticated electronics protect the motor and the battery from overloading and overheating. The user himself also has little to fear – provided he handles the tool properly. The powerful models even have kickback protection.

Another practical feature is that most Bosch batteries have a capacity indicator. So there are no negative surprises in this respect.

Price

Of course, the costs also have a certain influence on the decision. They should generally be in a fair proportion to your own requirements. In the cordless drill segment, this means the following: the more power you expect and the more durable the tool is to be in continuous use, the more you have to invest.

A Bosch Professional drill is clearly a high-quality brand that can be used in both private and commercial applications. You can save the most money if you only have to buy the individual tool. Otherwise, a budget well into triple figures is almost always required, even for the compact versions.

Bosch Professional drill – It has many advantages

The blue Bosch Professional drills have great advantages to offer you. The manufacturer always finds an optimal synergy of compactness and performance.
