The traditional Bavarian company Einhell offers a wide range of power tools for DIY and craftsmen. These are characterised by a favourable price/performance ratio, among other things. The range also includes impact drivers in various designs. An Einhell impact driver is powered either by a rechargeable battery, a mains cable or a compressed air line. The devices are all quite inexpensive, but can be considered for changing tyres on a classic car.

Einhell TE-CW 18 Li BL

Cordless impact drivers offer you the advantage of being able to directly access any desired location. You are neither dependent on a cable nor on a compressed air supply line. One recommendation in this context is the Einhell TE-CW 18 Li BL .

The tool is powered by an 18V battery from the Power-X-Change series. Accordingly, you can save money if you already have one of these and a suitable charger. The low voltage is sufficient to generate a torque of 215 Nm. This is perfectly sufficient for changing tyres on a classic car. While 90 Nm is already sufficient for a small car like a Fiat 500, values of more than 150 Nm are required for an SUV.

Because a brushless motor is used, you can expect minimal maintenance. In addition, there is no loss of power due to friction. Furthermore, the impact wrench weighs less than 2 kg, even with the battery, and is therefore easy to handle. The LED lighting on the front also contributes to a high level of comfort, thanks to which you can illuminate every remote corner.

Einhell CC-IW 950

The electric impact drivers from Einhell are powerful yet inexpensive. A good example is the Einhell CC-IW 950 .

This model can develop a torque of up to 450 Nm and still costs well under 100 euros. It comes with a practical carrying case and 4 sockets. The diameters range between 17 and 22 mm, so you are flexible. Since there is also a so-called rocker switch, you can vary the direction of rotation via a central main switch. All you have to do is place your finger either in the upper or lower area.

You can start using the machine immediately after unpacking by simply plugging the mains cable into a conventional socket (220-240V). Incidentally, the unit weighs 3.4 kg. This ensures a good level of operating comfort. The rubberised elements on the handle are certainly a support here.

Einhell TC-PW 610

As with other manufacturers, compressed air impact wrenches from Einhell can call up the greatest torque. The most powerful model currently available from the Bavarian company is the Einhell TC-PW 610 .

This impact wrench is even supplied with 10 different sockets. The spectrum ranges from 8 to 27 mm, which is why every task can be adequately tackled, guaranteed. According to the manufacturer, the supply line should have an inner diameter of at least 9 mm. You can then apply a torque of 610 Nm to nuts and bolts. Even rusty and very tight ones usually give up immediately under this kind of load.

The impact wrench’s own weight is 2.1 kg, which is commendable considering its performance. Of course, the weight and the occasional pulling of the supply line must also be taken into account. In addition, 4 power levels are available. They all have a different speed and a different torque. This makes it possible to adapt perfectly to various tasks.

Drive

Einhell offers all common impact driver designs: Models with rechargeable battery, models with power cable and models with compressed air connection. They all have advantages and disadvantages in equal measure.

Battery-powered impact drivers have become the most popular. They can be easily carried to any desired location and give the user maximum freedom of movement. The energy is provided by a lithium-ion battery. Such batteries are not exactly cheap, but they promise a long service life. There is no memory effect. In addition, a lot of capacity can be accommodated in a small space (high energy density) and self-discharge is minimal.

Electric impact drivers are the cheapest type and are supplied with energy via the mains (220-240V). The increased electrical voltage makes it easier to develop more power. In addition, they can be used more or less continuously. However, the cable can also be viewed negatively: it restricts freedom of movement and can even pose a tripping hazard.

Impact drivers with compressed air are mostly used in the trade. In the Einhell range, they can develop the highest torque. Accordingly, even a tyre change on large vehicles can still be reliably managed. First, however, more effort is required. A compressor and a compressed air supply line must also be provided.

Power

The power is of course of decisive importance. It must be suitable for the conditions on site. Due to the impact mechanism, impact wrenches are generally superior to cordless wrenches. However, this is also extremely important for loosening wheel bolts.

The best way to estimate the performance potential is to look at the maximum torque. It is given in the unit Nm (newton metres). The battery-powered impact drivers from Einhell are the weakest in this respect. Depending on the model, their maximum torque is 215 Nm. However, such a value is sufficient to change tyres on all common cars. Incidentally, the manufacturer’s most powerful pneumatic impact wrench has a peak torque of 610 Nm.

With the cable models, it can also be interesting to look at the wattage. It primarily defines the power consumption. However, an increased energy consumption/unit of time can also tend to go hand in hand with more power. Nevertheless, the value should be treated with caution.

In the cordless impact driver segment, the battery voltage is also relevant. The higher the value, the better. The most common voltage is 18V. By the way, you can use the 18V batteries of the Power-X-Change series in many other tools of the manufacturer.

Handling

Einhell strives to provide you with a high level of operating comfort. In general, the manufacturer’s cordless impact wrenches promise the greatest convenience. This is simply because they are completely self-sufficient and can be transported almost anywhere.

The biggest influence on comfort is certainly the weight. It is not unusual for an Einhell impact driver to weigh 2 kg or even less. In this case, it can be comfortably guided even above the shoulders.

A rubberised handle also promotes comfort. It prevents the formation of pressure feelings and calluses. In most cases, there is also a certain amount of ribbing, thanks to which you can grip the tool securely even during agile work.

The operation is generally intuitive. Either the running direction is changed at the same switch (rocker switch) or there is a button on the side of the housing to switch from right to left and vice versa.

In some offers, you only have to invest around 50 Pounds. For a cordless impact driver including battery and charger, however, a three-digit budget must be planned, even for Einhell.

In general, the costs should match your own requirements. The more power you need and the more functional the impact driver should be, the higher the investment should be. In the case of high-priced tools, you can also expect them to last longer.
